Mobile Meals Celebrates 54 Years

Mobile Meals, Inc. of Charlotte held its Annual Members’ and Annual Board Meeting on February 3, 2025.  This project was started in 1971 and continues to be governed by the Mobile Meals, Inc. of Charlotte Board in cooperation with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)– Charlotte and U of M Sparrow Eaton Hospital (formerly Hayes Green Beach).  About 100 volunteers from GFWC-Charlotte and the community deliver meals daily, serve as coordinators and board members, and are donors.

The purpose of Mobile Meals is to support individuals who reside within the Charlotte city limits to remain as independent as possible in their own homes.  Hot nutritious noon meals (special diets are accommodated) are prepared daily by the hospital.  Optional cold dinners are also available.  These are delivered by volunteers every day (or as needed) around noon.  Although there are charges for these meals, they are less than the cost of a “Happy Meal” because of subsidies provided by United Way of South Central Michigan designations, private donations (special thanks to Gordon Masters), Mobile Meals, Inc. of Charlotte and GFWC-Charlotte.

Call Rhonda (517-541-5909) at the U of M Sparrow Eaton Hospital for more information about the meals or to sign up for the program.  View the Mobile Meals brochure to learn more about the program.

Call Linda Foster (517-543-3041) or email:  ed@fosterdvm.com if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.

Women on the Move

Women on the Move is a program that encourages our members to walk and do other exercises.  Members often use Al!ve, our local health and wellness center, but can count any exercise done elsewhere.  Members keep a record in the log book and report their hours yearly.  This often becomes a group social event and well as exercise.

Operation Smile

Operation Smile provides surgical care, at no cost, for patients and their families affected by cleft lip and cleft palette. A cleft is a gap in the mouth that didn’t close during the early stages of pregnancy.  In the past, our members have sewn muslin dolls, hospital gowns, Smile bags and made fleece blankets.  At their request, we are donating travel size toothpaste, tooth brushes, greeting cards, small pack of crayons and thin coloring books.
